Sun State Doulas is changing the face of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. We are blown away by the services they offer parents and the wonderful people who work for them. We interviewed Sun State Doulas so we can educate our readers on the services that are offered if you are expecting. From placenta encapsulation to how they got started, Sun State Doulas has shared some amazing knowledge with us!
Please tell us how Sun State Doulas got started.
Sun State Doulas was started out of the need for a professional, cohesive, unit of birth professionals, who worked together, to provide a singular location for women to purchase pregnancy, birth, and postpartum services outside that of their primary care provider. In other words, their primary care provider takes care of the medical side of birth and we handle the rest.
What does a Labor/ Labour Doula assist a Mom to be with?
A labor doula supports the woman and her partner mentally, emotionally, educationally, and physically throughout pregnancy, the birth, and into the early postpartum period. She helps them deal with the emotions and thoughts that come with this transition, guides them through their choices as they find what works best for their family, and supports them in those decisions.
How do you inspire families to find their personal philosophies surrounding birth and early parenthood?
We inspire families to find their personal philosophies surrounding birth and early parenthood by talking with families about their options and reminding them to use B.R.A.I.N. (Benefits Risks Alternatives Intuition Nothing) to make their final decision. Sometimes, families just want someone as a sounding board. We provide that by offering unbiased, non-judgmental support. Many families find that alone gives them the freedom to make the choices they feel best suites their needs.
What is placenta encapsulation?
Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing, dehydrating, and then encapsulating the woman’s placenta in preparation for consumption.
What kind of health benefits does it provide?
Consumption of the placenta offers many benefits. Some of these include:
● Reduction and prevention of postpartum depression or “baby blues”
● Replenishing your iron from blood loss during birth and to prevent post-birth anemia
● Providing the HPL hormone to establish early milk supply
● Stabilization of hormones
● Natural pain relief
● Replenishing B vitamins and energy lost during labor and birth
What is a Postpartum Doula and what services do they provide?
A Postpartum Doula is a doula whose job is specifically to help families transition into parenthood and bond more easily with their new baby. She provides emotional and physical support, infant feeding education and support, sibling support, light cleaning, light cooking, and general coping techniques.
