There is something magical about the lakes! To me, it is not just the water restricted in a place but a complete vegetation in itself. India is one of the best places to be explored in the name of lakes and if we talk about the lakes in and around the national capital, be ready to be amazed! So, if you happen to be in Delhi-NCR and looking to spend a little time around a lake, here is your first-hand account by a young traveller in India.

1) Karna Lake
It was by this lakeside I realised the effect of a lake on my mind and soul. You can say, I grew up visiting frequently here. Located just 125 km to the north of Delhi in the town of Karnal, this is one of the lakes maintained by the Haryana State Tourism. Situated on the main highway also adds to the popularity of this destination. A perfect escape, you can click a few of the best pictures ever here!
2) Damdama Lake
Situated in the Gurugram district (formerly Gurgaon), Damdama lake is a popular lake named after village Damdama. One of the popular attractions for the nature lovers, if you are lucky enough, you can even spot a few hot air balloons flying over the lake. Sounds interesting? Capture the view for yourself by being there on the next trip.
3) Hauz Khas Lake
A well-renowned name among the youngsters, Hauz Khas fort got its own share of the natures slice. Situated in the Hauz Khas Village, this lake can help you paint your wall of memories in a better way than others. What is special about this place is a mini-island type habitation which is created to provide a home to the ducks and other inhabitants of the lake.
4) Lodhi Garden, New Delhi
Located on the posh Lodhi Road of the national capital, Lodhi Garden got a lake of its own! A popular place for the locals, this lake can help you in stealing the best of the sunset. A bridge called ‘atthpulla’ constructed on the lake where you can sit and relax for a while as you have your moments with nature. Just make sure you sit there with caution and do not jump straight into the water. oops!
5) Sukhna Lake
One of the most happening places of the city Beautiful, Chandigarh, Sukhna lake is not just a normal evening hangout place! It is a reflection of the life in itself. Go boating or simply settle in the corner as the cool breeze have a soothing effect on your body and soul. Book your weekend in India for a road trip to Chandigarh and do not forget to return here to thank me!
6) Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh
One of the hidden gems situated on the Yamuna Barrage Delhi-UP borders. A perfect weekend destination or in fact I have spent many evenings here! A nominal entry fee and you can be in the lap of nature. The lake, the vegetation and not to forget the birds (only if you are lucky and patient enough) Take my advice and do not miss the sound of the water romancing with the shore stones.
7) Brahma Sarovar, Kurukshetra
..and if you are driving from Delhi to Chandigarh, take a halt at the Mahabharata town, Kurukshetra. Next city to Karnal on NH-1, Brahma Sarovar is just the water body you may have been looking up to! The clear water and the mythological significance in this holy town have the power to inspire you.
8) Sultanpur Lake, Haryana
Another bird sanctuary on the list, Sultanpur lake is the apple of the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary’s eye. Situated in the corporate city of Gurugram (formerly Gurgaon), Sultanpur lake can be those virgin lakesides you will cherish for the lifetime.
9) Silisreh Lake, Rajasthan
Hardly 160 km from Delhi on the way to Alwar City, Rajasthan, Silisreh lake is one of the many such destinations in the royal state of the Rajasthan. Exposing a magical view for you to remember for life, this place is situated amidst the Aravali range of hills. Plan your weekend to Sariska Tiger Reserve and take a stopover here. Why?
