There is a Polar Bear in the Snow

We see nothing, then he awakens. This is when even your tiniest reader is taken on a whole new adventure of wonderment, quiet and an artistic delight thanks to artist Shawn Harris.

Author Mac Barnett has a way of writing to your children with both calm and anticipation. Your children will realize that even when you think nothing is there, if you look close enough, you will see a whole system of life and choices. Mac inspires the budding artist within your child.

Friends for Life

There is a synergy of author and illustrator in this book and we know why! Mac and Shawn were friends since they were kids. They even were once on the same soccer team! Mac and Shawn share that they discuss and debate books together but with A Polar Bear in the Snow, there was not a single disagreement.

A Mystery Story

Where is the polar bear going? We are taken to the polar bear’s journey to find out where the polar bear is going. We are surprised to see all of the animals and adventures he sees.

Using minimalism to communicate throughout this story, we learn about the places and things around the polar bear as he goes on his journey.

EXTRA CREDIT

Have your child pick another animal and have them write a minimalist story to describe that animal’s journey to where it is going. Will they pick a fish in the ocean or a scorpion in the desert? It is up to their imagination to decide.

A Great Book

This is a great book from Candlewick Press for early readers and reluctant readers to practice reading. We love the illustrations and the thoughtfulness that went into this book. It really speaks calmly to children and that is exactly what they need.
