* What inspired you to start your blog Journalling Joy?
I have had the writing bug since I was little — my age was in the single digits, believe it or not. Combined with the belief that everyone can contribute in their own way to the betterment of the world, it was very natural for me to start a blog dedicated to the topic. I experimented a lot in the last nine years of blogging on how to use this online space of mine to inspire readers and create conversations that would help everyone gain a better understanding of what they can do to make things better. This experimentation also helps to inform the books that I write, so that instead of being condescending (like so many titles of the genre are), they instead reflect a process of learning.
* What is your blog about?
At the core of every post is the question of making the world a better place. I currently dedicate Tuesdays to posts on how to do this through our own, personal development as well as through community building. Fridays are dedicated to bettering the world through bettering our families. It might seem very theoretical, but it isn’t! For example, reading is very important to personal development, community-building, and family life, so I have quite a few book reviews on my blog. I also review various things that we use in our day-to-day life, looking particularly into the environmental and social consequences of their production process. I have a set of posts dedicated to make-up needs for Moms, balancing efficiency, practicality, and various health and ethical concerns. I also go over tools that can help us in our personal development, such as bullet journalling, the use of mantras, and journalling, as well as tools that help us in a community setting, such as dealing with anger and consultation.
What are you passionate about?
Other than making the world a better place? Coffee, chocolate, books (both reading them and writing them!), the X-Files, Star Trek, and Buffy! Thankfully, I can often combine these easily, albeit a little less since have a baby… When can I introduce my little one to Buffy, guys?
Where do you see your blog in five years?
I would like to make the blog’s branding more solid–it feels visually a little generic to me, however beautiful it is and however much readers love it. I also would like to see commenting increase, so that readers can exchange ideas and insights.
