How was the website created?

dino4

Nik Cann the designer of Dinosaurus explained his thoughts behind the creative: “For the style of the dinosaurs I wanted to convey a nostalgic feel, influenced by the illustrations featured in the dinosaur books and encyclopaedias of my childhood. Starting out with hand-drawn sketches before working digitally really helps to keep an organic feel about the characters.

Each dinosaur was stylised and simplified then broken down into simple shapes, whilst trying to retain all the core characteristics of each species featured. Its important need to strike a balance, making sure each illustration is both visually appealing and educational. A bold colour pallet is used to clearly differentiate each species, and the colours chosen hint at each dinosaur’s traits and temperament.”

Why was it created for children?

dino2

It was created for children as an educational resource to use in the classroom, at home for schooling purposes, or just as a fun activity for parents and children to do together.

Children always seem to enjoy learning about dinosaurs, especially when there are illustrations to match, and interactive elements that the children can discover and play with themselves.

What makes it unique?

Dinosaurus: Jurassic Facts is unique because the illustrations have been drawn digitally by designer Nik Cann, and have not been used anywhere before this creative piece was launched. Whilst there are several Jurassic Park and Dinosaur websites which explain facts about each designer, it’s rare to come across one that is child friendly and designed to be user-friendly.

Why will children and parents love it?

Dinosaurus has received a really positive response from both parents and children. Children love it because of the illustrations, dinosaur sounds, and the more basic information about the footprints, teeth, food and ability. It will depend on the age of the child how much of the site they understand. It’s definitely catered more towards

Parents love the Jurassic Facts guide because it can keep their children entertained for hours, and it’s a great activity that can be done together. Adults can enjoy explaining the website, and the history of dinosaurs to their children, and maybe even watch a few of the Jurassic Park films to further educate them (again, dependent on age).
