Explore Living Landscapes with TurfMutt and The Outdoor Powers
Are your kids bored at home this summer? What if they could have fun and learn something too? Your elementary schoolers can join Lucky the TurfMutt (www.turfmutt.com) on an adventure this summer, and become backyard superheroes who take care of green spaces?
Lucky the TurfMutt is a real-life rescue dog. Once homeless, Lucky was found on the side of an Indiana highway by his owner, Kris Kiser, who took him home. Lucky got a great home, a comfy blanket, AND a great name! Now, Lucky “paws it forward” by helping educators, kids and their families learn valuable science lessons right in their backyards, how to be good environmental stewards and get them outside to enjoy the outdoors.
Cartoonized by Scholastic, Lucky is now bigger than life. Your child can follow Lucky’s adventures and be inspired to be a backyard superhero just like Lucky. From the comfort of your home computer, tablet or phone, your child can read digital storybooks and get activity sheets. Your child can do activities with Lucky online or outside, and play fun games that drive home science, technology, engineering and math concepts.
Lucky seeks to inspire children and their families to care for green spaces while learning science and having fun. And with the help of a few friends known as The Outdoor Powers — Big Rooty, Water Warrior, The Oxygenator, Professor Botany, and Green Ranger — they help keep things cool and green.
The program’s materials are FREE and aligned to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) standards. Learn more at www.TurfMutt.com.
