How to get rid of Stretch Marks during Pregnancy

What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks are a result of over-stretching of our skin.

The skin has a tendency to stretch, the collagen present in our skin makes it flexible but whenever it is stretched beyond certain limit it leaves marks. These marks appear as grooves of parallel lines or bands of pinkish, to purplish or reddish in color, you can even feel them with your fingers. Stretch marks are most likely to develop in areas near your breasts, stomach, upper-arms, thighs and gluteus maximus i.e. your bum.

Getting rid of Stretch-marks

Stretch marks can be reduced by different methods like using scar & stretch marks creams. But like the common proverb; prevention is better than Cure; similarly the best way to avoid stretch marks is dealing with them from the start. Pregnant women should start caring for their skin from the very beginning, but special care is required by the start of 6th month; as the major tummy bulging starts at this stage.

The best way to prevent stretch marks is to eat healthy and maintain the right amount of vitamins and nutrients required for a healthy skin. There are certain ingredients that help in reducing stretch marks. This will aid in helping you get rid of stretch marks during pregnancy. Some of them are described below:

Vitamin A:

Vitamin A is essential for a healthy skin cell production and it helps protect the skin. Eat foods enriched with vitamin A like beef liver, carrots, kale, broccoli, mango, squash, red bell peppers etc.

Vitamin E:

Aloe Vera:

It helps in recovering of the skin by hydrating it. Aloe vera also softens the skin causing it to recover and grow better.

Natural oils:

Oils like avocado, primrose, coconut and lavender deeply moistens the skin this helps in healing the stretch marks.


Collagen is the protein that gives flexibility to the skin. By using products like creams and lotions containing collagen helps repairing the damaged skin.

  • Avoiding Harsh Chemicals:

Choose your body washes wisely, most body washes contains sulfates that dry up the skin. Try using a wash with natural oils that will affect as a conditioner for your skin and keep it moisturized.
