Tell us how you came up with your business idea…

I Came up with my Business idea because my then 4 month old daughter, loves to put my jewelry in her mouth! I didn’t want her to hurt herself on them and thought it would be awesome if their was a baby friendly alternative for necklaces that still looked fashionable but were safe and practical for baby to play with. After a few months of research, I decided I would try and make my own necklaces. Needless to say, they were a HUGE hit with my daughter! They quickly became her new favourite teether and I loved how I could wear them with anything and it was an easy, at-hand teether for her. I also went on to also create teething bracelets for moms to wear. They are fashionable, excellent teether, and are a great way to remember what side you last nursed on!  I decided that if we loved these necklaces so much, maybe other moms would too!

How does your business help families?

That’s Darling Co. helps families by being an easily accessible teething toy for their babes. Our necklaces and bracelets also serve as a fashionable alternative for moms that still want to wear jewelry but they are also safe for babies to tug and teeth on.

Blogger of the Month: Modern Day Dame

  1. What inspired you to start your blog?

I have been a writer for as long as I can remember. Always jotting down my thoughts and feelings in my little journal, never intending for anyone to really read it. It wasn’t until I was much older that I decided to start blogging. I have been writing under the name ModernDayDame for as long as I can remember, I just never felt like I had a direction. So my posts were mostly random and read more like a diary than anything that could be minutely relate-able to others. It wasn’t until I met the man who would become my husband that the flood gates opened and all the pieces that never quite seem the fit together just clicked. I would write about the ups and downs of relationships, my pinterest fails and the stresses of everyday life, i.e. my work commute, late work hours and my journey into becoming a wife and mother for the first time.

  1. What is your blog about?

My blog is about a little bit of everything. My journey into learning how to be a great wife… well maybe just a good wife 🙂 What it has been like becoming a mother for the first time. Along with the frustrating, exciting, funny and unexpected events that come along with being both. Hence my blog tagline, “The authentic and uncensored life of an overzealous, coffee fueled wife and mother”. Growing up I never really was known for my filter, actually I was known for the lack of a filter. I tend to drink a ton of coffee and curse a lot by accident. Having my daughter however has seemed to tame my outrageous traits a bit. In my writing I feel you can see my personality in words, maybe with a little less cussing but a whole lot of tenacity regarding my opinions and my family and a lot more sass.

  1. What are you passionate about?

BOOKS!!! My crafts… Oh and coffee. Since I was a young child I could always be found with a book in my hands. This has lead to adulthood and owning two large 6 footer bookshelves overflowing with a plethora of books! Reading is a great way to escape the woes and tribulations of life even if it is for a hot minute. Which leads into opening my Etsy store this year. I love reading so much and had often found myself without bookmarks, leading to dog earring my books to save my place. My books are almost as dear to me as my child… almost… so dog earring was not going to be a healthy option for keeping my books in good condition. That is when I decided to start designing my own bookmarks. Which became my first listings on my Etsy shop. There is a little bit of everything for everyone.

  1. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Let’s see five years from now I would like too see at the least more traffic to my blog. I feel there are a ton of people out there who can relate to my writings I just need to find them. I am also hoping to find some ways to make my blog more profitable and boost the sales on my Etsy shop. I don’t think I was built for the corporate world, at least not long term anyway. I want to be able to find ways to provide for my family by doing the things I love. I know it will take a lot of time and a lot of patience. And although my patience seems to run a little thin most days, I think I have what it takes to make it to my finish line.
