Author Leslie Burby is a public speaker, writer and Editor of Autism Parenting Magazine. She has three lovely children with one who has Asperger’s Syndrome. When we found out that Leslie has authored a children’s book: Grace Figures Out School. We had to get our hands on it.
Grace Figures Out School is about Grace,a little girl going into her first day at school. She has Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of Autism. Grace takes what everyone says very literally; she is calculative and smart, but needs to learn how to understand her peers and her peers need to understand her.
Grace Figures Out School is for families who have an autistic child and families who do not alike. Leslie has a wonderful way of weaving the mind of a young Asperger’s child into a children’s story. Children without Asperger’s Syndrome will become more understanding of the way their mind works and parents will understand that their mind set is more matter of fact then figurative. Everyone learns when reading Grace Figures Out School. This is a must read for any child who is entering the classroom, so we can all better understand each other.
Each of us learn differently and if we teach our children this lesson very early, it will make everyone’s classroom life a lot easier. Grace Figures Out School is also available on audio download and in paperback here. This is a must read book for every child and their family who are going to school or family members of a child who has Asperger’s Syndrome.
