New Baby, New Messes, New Routines and Selling Your Home….Oh My!


When a new baby arrives, so does a mess, and in most cases routines. When selling your home, it can become overwhelming with a baby or even toddler as routines can be easily thrown off. However, here are some tips on surviving your house on the market with a baby or toddler.

  1. Be flexible and know that you can set boundaries

    We are all human and therefore we are compassionate and understanding if you have a baby or young child. Therefore you are able to set some boundaries on when you are most flexible with showings. There is an option that you can request a 24 hour notice and in most cases it is honored. It may sound like an inconvenience but it really is easier than one may think.
  2. Have an away from home option

    If you have family or friends that live nearby and are comfortable with you staying at their place while a showing is happening then use this as a home away option. This option can be handy for last minute showings and a nap away from home option. Keep a calendar of all scheduled showings as it can be used to help plan the day and routines for your little one.
  3. Declutter Toys or find easy toy storage

When decluttering, store away the toys that are not played with every day and just keep a couple that are played with most often. This way if there is a last minute viewing, the toys can be easily put in a box in a closet.

  1. Spot clean regularly

Spot cleaning regularly can help make it easier for parents with little ones. It helps ease the stress of cleaning in a panic before your next showing. It prepares you for any possible last minute showing as well.

  1. Prepare meals in advance

By cooking or prepping meals in advance and placing those in containers in the fridge can make it easy the next day to grab and go. This is especially helpful for babies who have started eating solids and for toddlers. It can also help save money for the adults from not dining out every time there is a showing.

  1. Always have your diaper bag stocked and ready to go

Always great to have your diaper bag stocked with diapers, extra cloths, extra clothes, toys, snacks wipes, etc. This way if you need to pick up and go it will be much easier and will help you stay prepared if you need to crash at someone’s home during the day.

  1. Take a deep breath

Remember, your house won’t be on the market forever so don’t forget to breathe during the process. All of this time that you have spent away from home will be all worth it in the end once you have settled into your dream family home.
